Answer - Due to the amount of snowfall that we get in Canada, there is no doubt that drivers should be using winter tires. Even on cold days, ice tends to form on the roads, so switching to winter tires keeps you safe and in control. When the temperature starts to drop, it is best to change to winter tires. When the temperature starts to rise, it is time to change out those winter tires for all-season or summer tires.
Answer - Winter tires are made from a softer rubber than all-season tires, so the softer material is perfect for cold temperatures. The tires do not harden and cause you to lose traction. In warmer temperatures, the winter tires are too soft, so they wear more quickly, and their service life can be reduced up to 60 percent. This means that you’ll have to replace your winter tires sooner than you would if you had replaced them with your summer or all-seasons in the spring. Tires tend to have a big price tag!
Answer - Yes. If you drive your winter tires during incorrect temperatures on the road, you will notice the amount of fuel you use will increase. The soft rubber makes your vehicle work harder as if your tire was improperly inflated. This means that driving your winter tires in the spring will cause you to use more fuel. Therefore, it will cost you more money in fuel and more frequent tire purchases!
Answer - While all-season tires work well most of the year, they do not match up to winter tires. Summer tires driven in the winter stiffen up, which risk tread damage, and provide very little traction if any. The summer tires will need replacing from unnessersary damage due to improper use.
Winters tires give better braking and handling during icy, frosty, snowy, and slushy weather. The fuel economy may stay the same with all-seasons, but the vehicle does not have optimal control during the winter. Summer tires will just slide due to low traction on the road.
Answer - Yes, you should have two sets of tires on rims for this area. If you take tires off of the rims, you risk damaging the bead over a short time. It cost extra money to remove a tire from the rim, the re-balancing, and then mounting them back on your vehicle.
